Our Learning
Below is a snapshot of the learning Icarus have completed this year.
Autumn
Autumn learning
In English we will begin by focusing on our presentation and handwriting. We will also be working on our place value of punctuation and grammar. During this we look at proper and common nouns, verbs and subjects to help our sentence structure.
This will follow on to learning about non-chronological reports and recounts in the second half of autumn term.
During the year children who access reading skills will have use of Reading Plus to develop fluency and comprehension skills. Children who access phonics and Fresh Start will have use of virtual classrooms to develop their skills.
We will also be encouraging children to 'read for pleasure' and to support this we will have a weekly library session for children to explore a range of books. Children also have the opportunity to take a book home to share and this will get changed during our weekly library slot.
Maths - This term the children will be working in their maths groups.
Some children will be working on numbers to 10, part-whole to 10, addition within 10, subtraction within 10 and 2D/3D shapes.
Some children will be working on numbers to 100, addition and subtraction and properties of shapes.
